TSTnews can report that former Netone chief executive officer Reward Kangai who has been tirelessly seeking justice with regards to a litany of corruption allegations against the journalist-cum-politician Supa Mandiwanzira believes the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission(ZACC) needs to institute investigations against his former boss to show its willingness in the fight against the scourge.
The former Netone boss was responding to a tweet by ZACC imploring all and sundry to join hands in combating corruption.
“I certainly agree with that but we should also inquire of you, as to what you have done about corruption at Netone involving Megawatt Energy, ZTE & former ICT Minister and accomplices, given the recent developments which purportedly involve ZTE?,” asked Kangai.
He further said the crisis at the beleaguered telecommunications parastatal was caused by abuse of office by the former ICT minister Supa Mandiwanzira during his reign and was reported to ZACC 4 years ago.
”Netone crisis caused by Megawatt Energy, ZTE and ICT Minister (mid-Dec 2014 to Sept 2018) was reported to ZACC more than 4 years ago and lack of action, is what has destroyed the company and Telecel_Zim is also now struggling due to the same ex-ICT Minister’s corruption
“Surprised that there is still no action on those involved in the Megawatt Energy and ZTE scam I reported to them for the umpteenth time in Aug 2019!,” remarked the former Netone boss.
Prominent businessman and ex-Zanu PF benefactor Agrippa Bopela Masiyandima insinuated that Mandiwanzira could be still influencing what is happening at Netone with the new minister Jenfan Muswere.
“Anything is possible with Supa,ZTE, Megawatt meddling in contracts at NetOne with the new Minister,”said Masiyandima
TSTnews gleaned the letter written to ZACC last year by the former Netone Boss detailing Mandiwanzira’s alleged corrupt deeds at the parastatal.
“Minister Supa Mandiwanzira ended up involved in selecting key appointments at Netone. The strategy by Hon Supa Mandiwanzira was to form a cartel that would facilitate the looting of funds at Netone as is apparent from the Megawatt Energy scandal, the billing equipment contract award to ZTE after cancelling contract with FTS of Israel on Supa Mandiwanzira’s instruction and unnecessary procurement of a Mobile Switching Centre,MSC, equipment from ZTE at a price of US$12 million,”he said in the letter.
Contacted for comment by TSTnews, ZACC spokesperson John Makamure shot down at the allegation that the anti-graft body is shielding the former ICT minister.
“We would like to dismiss such allegation with the contempt that it deserves,”said the ZACC spokesperson.
In 2019 the High Court acquitted former minister Supa Mandiwanzira on one of the criminal abuse of office charges involving a $218 million auditing contract signed by NetOne and a South African company.
