HARARE – Under fire MDC-T President Thokozani Khupe was thrown under the bus following near unanimous rejection of her leadership by MDC Alliance members of Parliament and senators.

This move heralds the beginning of an end to her political career where she served much at the mercy of former adored Prime Minister, Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.
According to Mutumanje a.k.a Lumumba, Thokozani Khupe is the Mphoko of MDC following the abrupt end and sinking into political oblivion of former VP Phelekhezela Mphoko when Robert Mugabe was swept from the throne by the November, 2017 coup.
” Out of the 111 MPs we have a total of 109 MPs who have confirmed that they are still members of the MDC Alliance Party. They are paid up members. Mr. Komichi and Mwonzora have crossed the floor to MDC-T in violation of the electoral laws. Khupe now has 4 MPs under MDCT, ” said MDC Alliance Secretary General Charlton Hwende putting to rest claims that Khupe is now controlling the opposition party.
Hwende posted affidavits signed by MPs including his which affirms that Nelson Chamisa is still the bona fide leader of the party.
” If you go to ZEC you will get the nomination form for National Assembly in terms of the Electoral Act Chapter 2:13 Section 46(1) page 4 of 7. The name of the party is MDC Alliance and the short description of the symbol is open right palm with fingers bearing the face of Nelson Chamisa,” clarified Hwende posting the image of the symbol and nomination papers lodged at the election administration commission.
Khupe’s victory at the Supreme Court was short lived as all the local and international provinces of the MDC Alliance quickly rallied behind Chamisa and all members of the 2014 MDC-T standing committee except the rebels denied links to her.
Constitutional lawyer and political analyst Mr. Shepherd Dube weighed in: ” For the benefit of those who have never seen the Alliance document, there is a clause that said in the event of a vacant in the Presidency for whatever reason before the election, then the Alliance partners shall select another candidate.”
The document further said the Presidential candidate must be the best individual who can win the election against the incumbent and never said the candidate who shall replace Morgan Tsvangirai. The Alliance partners in their wisdom decided to put Chamisa and that settles it. Those who are celebrating the demise of all the Alliance were sold a dud.
These are sentiments echoed by Alliance partners and senior lawyers MDC co-VPs Professor Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti.
Thokozani Khupe’s camp is already divided following revelations that some members including Mashavira the man behind the lawsuit expressed discomfort in working with Komichi and Mwonzora who worked on Chamisa’s side sidelining Khupe.
Mwonzora is allegedly plotting to topple Khupe at the forthcoming congress of the splinter party backed by Komichi and Obert Gutu.
