HARARE – MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa offered to help the government in the fight against Covid-19 in his address to the nation yesterday, TSTnews reports.

Chamisa proposed a comprehensive, consultative and all sector approach to offering solutions, what he referred to as ‘ A United team Zimbabwe approach’.
The former ICT minister advocates for detecting, mass testing, transparent testing, accurate official figures and information dissemination as key to combating the pandemic.
On the social front, he said: ” Cushioning of citizens from economic distress and speed up roll out of humanitarian support is vital”.
Chamisa encouraged government to be transparent in food and money distribution to the vulnerable irrespective of political affiliation.
He added that the 2% levy can be used to financially support the infected persons and help the deceased families.
The opposition leader urged government to emulate other governments pro-poor and robust packages notably Ghana, Rwanda and Guinea which offered free public transport, free water, electricity, free hospitals and free food to the underprivileged.
In the economy he suggested that the government should implement full dollarisation, removal of tax retention to aid growth in exporting and implementing tax waivers.
Chamisa went on to encourage government to set aside US$ 5 billion fiscal stimulus to rescue companies and remove the 2% tax in order to avert company closures.
The firebrand leader saluted frontline health workers and security personnel for executing their duties professionally with limited resources, urging that they should be adequately resourced and have Personal Protection Equipment.
He also advised that the education sector should utilise online learning platforms, television and radio for learning and teaching.
