HARARE – Some police officers working at the Waterfalls police station are allegedly being accused of receiving bribes from accused person to foil investigations and arrests, TSTnews has learnt.

Speaking to TSTnews, residents in Harare Waterfalls Retreat Park bemoaned the level of corruption at the Waterfalls police station and have since lodged their complaints with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to look into the matter.
“We no longer have confidence in the police at Waterfalls because most of the cases we report are not being accorded justice hence we have made a formal complaint to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission(ZACC) to investigate the matter because the superiors at the police station have failed to address it,” said an executive member of a residents association,Retreat Harare Southern Residents Trust who requested anonymity.
Another resident only identified as Tamuka said because of the lack of confidence in the law enforcement agents at Waterfalls police they are now bypassing to report to Mbare.
“Owing to this we now prefer to report our cases to Mbare because the officers at Waterfall police station are corrupt and they will sweep matters under the carpet,” confided to TSTnews.
TSTnews in possession of numerous cases which are alleged to have been foiled by named corrupt police officers.
There is a case of attempted murder reported under reference number CR200/07/19 by one MacDonald Mudzingwa which the complainant alleges that police officers investigating the matter had their palms greased by the accused ’s wife.
“In a recorded case CR200/07/19 complainant MacDonald Mudzingwa accused Mike Ponzi of attempted murder but has the evidence of one Sergeant Kufakunesu and Constable Lunga receiving US85.00 from the accused’s wife ‘Mai Delani’on a known date .
“Ever since that day the case is not being pursued with urgency,”it was revealed.
Another case under RRB4310212/CR15/04/20 of assault and robbery levelled against Tendai Nyatsanza by one Mukumba is also being dragged owing to allegations of bribe given to one Constable Moyo.
Contacted for comment by TSTnews, Officer in Charge ZRP WaterfallsChief InspectorChingoda said the station is only keen to investigate case by case.
“I can’t comment on the general assumption that some of our police officers are corrupt but we can only investigate case by case which I think is fair,” Chingoda said.
It is not the first time Waterfalls police station has been accused of being corrupt, last year an independent publication revealed that the station was being sucked into allegations of having received ‘protection fees’ from business mogul Billy Rautenbach. The minister of state for Harare Metropolitan province Oliver Chidawo is said to have also raised the alarm.
