ZIDERA constitutes a major stumbling block to our economic recovery.

Yes, we applaud our Finance Minister through the TSP programme for addressing the concerns of the United States as documented in the ZIDERA 2018 document.

With the TSP document, excellent in its own right, are we going to see its smooth implementation.

By Themba Ndebele

Zimbabwe needs to be freed from political bondage.

Once the demon called Zanu PF, with its shrewd policies, is allowed to get its hands on this TSP initiative, ZIDERA will always be with us forever.

For once, can we have the economy leading politics.

Now that we have new blood in Government and Cabinet, let me pose one question to the men and women who are in the cockpit.

The pain and suffering induced by the new economic measures imposed on us the poor; what will happen if all these measures fail just like the rest of other programmes in the past?

The fear of counting loses, that fear of reaping failure and hardship is so traumatic and stressful, and that feeling of being used as it sinks into our heads brings suicidal and violent cases on the rise.

Do we have plan B to counter all this?

Do we have plan B when this plan fails?

Do we have projects to fall back on when the big dream disintegrate?

El Nino is already upon us; do we have plan B to avert hunger without borrowing money for food imports?

Do we have plan B at this juncture to ensure that our irrigation infrastructure as a country is in place?

Let’s get our priorities right.

Let’s have solutions to problems affecting our people today.

Plan B should ensure that our diamonds, gold and platinum are not exported in raw form.

Plan B should ensure Zimbabwe will never import wheat for bread.

Plan B should ensure our hospitals and clinics are well equipped and stocked adequately.

And on a lighter note, can our Government free its left hand and lessen the burden of the nation by subsidising school fees and levy payments for two terms in a year?

Well, it was never done before, and it doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

What will government lose by allowing students to go to school for free just for two terms in a year.

I am sure Mr Mthuli Ncube will have to be flexible and allow one stockpile of our diamonds to be auctioned and the proceeds channelled towards that.

In reference to ESAP, a programme which was implemented without Plan B and the effects of it are still with us today, TSP should be backed by a home-grown Plan B which will avert plunging the country into a catastrophe.
